In the first case of its kind, the firm Levin Simes Abrams LLP filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Northern District of California earlier this month on October 15th. The suit alleges that a young man died as a result of his addition to JUUL, an electronic nicotine delivery system or e-cigarette.
In what would appear to be the first of many similar allegations, the plaintiff is asserting that JUUL Labs, Inc. took advantage of minimal regulations and loopholes for e-cigarettes at a time when youth smoking was at its lowest level in decades. Moreover, the JUULpods were developed and sold in kid-friendly flavors like mango, cool mint, fruit, and creme brulee with each delivering a powerful dose of nicotine and other toxic chemicals into the lungs, body, and brain of the JUULer.
